A young Christopher Lee guest stars as dastardly Larry Spence - a rising star in the world of journalism, turned blackmailer and then murderer - in The Vise: The Final Column (1.16, ABC, 1955); the episode wasn't seen in the UK until 1963, as part of ITV drama anthology Tension

that being said i cant sadly divorce the uk gf eps from the context they were shot in even if i wanted to
#Loved the edinburgh ep but the way shane said 'you will quit ghost hunting and find a job in the sneaker shop' sth thats less public facing#And the way ryan was like 'if you hate us turn of the light -oh that was rude because its so immediate'#Perhaps im overthinking but yeah. Of course you can divorce the text from the context but like. Idk.#The context being of course this being the first ep they shot in the uk. After april. I might be wrong but i just got a feeling its true#Anyway should stop making unrebloggable posts on this blog and get a diary i just overthink ghost files too much sorry

Conservative leadership hopeful Kemi Badenoch has faced criticism after a report she endorsed suggested people with autism get “economic advantages and protections” and “better treatment or equipment at school”.
Genuinely evil woman
#saw this on the i obvs#it’s on the guardian as well#not bbc. curious#ableism#I mean straight up mask off ableism#kemi badenoch#uk politics#economic advantages jfc#like just look at the statistics for unemployed autistic people and you can see how absurd it is#the job market is shit as is but it’s SO FUCKING HARD when part of the barrier to entry is this weird social dance that involves kind of#lying but only the right amount and saying the right things that may or may not be the whole truth#not to mention the increased stress of Going to a New Place to do a New Thing#I’m trying to move out of my parents’ so everything I’m applying for is all across the country#which means I’ll be travelling by public transport (SUPER HARD COS SENSORY ISSUES) to get to any interviews in the first place#and while I hesitate to say I’m “high functioning” cos I’m really not I wasn’t diagnosed until I was 20 and I functioned fine in school#except socially but hey who cares about THAT right it was probably my own fault for being a bit weird

so i applied for a DREAM JOB and out of 6000 applicants!!! I ended up in the final 15 😟
…and I did SOOOOO soooooo well til the very last round 😔 i accidentally became privy to some scathing information from the judging panel. ouuuuuuuchhhh lol my insecurities.
proud of myself for being true to myself and getting far as i did, though.
#also i got covid so feeling a bit self pitying at the moment#i honestly have massive beef with their criticisms#i left this country when i was 5 and have ended up with a lot of cultural differences#sorry English ppl reading this but i feel like the UK is very caught up on appearances. for example:#it’s an outdoorsy job and the panel were unimpressed i didn’t come in my hiking boots + wet weather gear#umm…. yeah because we are SITTING INSIDE ON A SUMMER’S DAY???#it felt like posing to me? i grew up in rural NZ so I’ve spent majority of my life in the bush#PS most of the hiking boots i did see were obviously pristine and never taken on an actual hike 🙄#yes i own that stuff. no im not gonna wear it just to prove a point. i wore jeans and the same shoes ive been wearing while hiking across#europe these last 2 months.#also the NZ wilderness is so much more rugged like these hikes in UK/europe would barely count as a casual day walk to me#so our standards are very different#and we both left feeling quite unimpressed with each other I think#i’ll provide one more rant: one of the exercises involved wiring up a plug. i did it successfully but failed cos I didn’t plug it in after#well um. my mama is a scientist and taught me not to fuck with electricity unless i’m 100% sure#yes I did all the wiring right but it was still my first time so I’m being cautious. apparently that’s a bad thing 🤷♀️#enough rants from me but basically yeah lots of little things like that which I disagree with

having listened to all this year’s esc entries honestly there are none that i hate?? like a few are a bit boring and don’t really stand out and i’d prefer not to see them in the final but there’s so much creativity and so many bangers this year.
#actually gutted that i'm on the other side of the world#if only i'd accepted this job the first time around so i'd be back in the uk now lol#but like i normally hate switzerland and sweden bc they do the same boring thing#but this year i'm like. okay it's still not my favourite but i don't dislike it i could actually listen to these songs??#even the uk entry is okay (not a winner for sure but it's not awful)#esc 2023

how would you rank the being human uk finale episodes?
mine would be:
1x06
2x08
4x08
3x08
5x06
#i find that both the s2 and s3 finales do a great job of building tension to a climax in the first 2 thirds#but then the last 20 min kind of drag#i find the s5 finale super boring and i dont like how the trio is separated for most of it rather than united#i was pleasantly surprised on rewatching s4 finale#and the s2 one has grown on me a lot cause that tension building up to mitchell's arrival is fantastic#but s1 is the best imo#i love how the tension builds and the trio stand united against herrick so good#plus it has the sarcastic priest so i mean yeah#being human#being human uk#being human bbc

While it is problematic to see events based only on our experiences even more the ones related to prejudice I'll admit that England prohibition of the Scottish gender affirmative laws scares me on way more than it's transphobia and opression towards the scotish people. It makes me think that if England isn't afraid of imposing their will on a country that on papper they consider their equal how do they react towards the people and countries they don't. That on my case means would England do an U.S similar move and help stabelish dictatorships on latin america if we did something that they considered against their values or that somehow affected their control? But on a general case it goes to ask about their relationship with India or how the goverment as whole treats imigrantes specially people of color and muslins (mostly muslins of color) and many more questions and fears related to racism and xenophonia.
This situation is of course about transphobia first as England doing all that to stop my fellow trans people from having measures that could drasticslly improve their life is a clear act of hate against us (and I don't know even how to conceptualize it, Brazil is if not the one of the countries with the higher rate of trans people being killed for our gender identity, we have few representation and transitioning while legal is quasi impossible even people who support trans rights outside the comunity are mostly either uninformed or do unintencional casual transphobia (for instance when I still identifield as nb and not trans a dear normally supportive friend wished me happy woman's day), the idea of having this bill is something out of a fairy tale to me and it likely was for older scottish trans people and to finally see this fairy tale becaming reality and by popular vote as well showing that your society is learning and caring only to have it took from you must be the worst feeling ever). I'm not trying to disminish this fact or put trans issues in second place. But there is no fight if we aren't all on it and it's important to understand how systemic those prejudices are. It's important that a trans white person understand what this implies to trans non white people and to cis non white people as well. Just as it is important that cis non white people understand how this impacts the trans comunity. We need to look at all angles and stand together.
#uk politics#scottland liberation#scottland#a country shouldn't have this much power#this isn't anti english people#au contrary I admire working class english people a lot#but it's anti english nationalists and the goverment as whole#brazil is going to a human right crisis#and I may post about it because it matters#i will just look for charity links that are trustfull and accept foreing money first#as since I still don't have a job this will he the best way to help#basically we have a loot to fight for#on a positive note the fact that the scottish people were marjority on favor of trans rights is amazing#i don't identify as poc#i'm white#but when talking about specifically european and us extreme white identities I know they wouldn't see me as so#so that's why on this specific post I may have accidentaly included me as poc#i'm not i live in brazil and in here i have white priviledge simple like that#i don't understand why europe and us misture xenophobia and racism in it's labbeling but than prejudice isn't logical#serius post

his pussy | was like | a What | aburg | er fryer

and brother | i was | the last | rat | in texas
pentameter (mostly iambs and amphibrachs)
his pussy was like a Whataburger frier. and brother. i was the last rat in texas
#actually gonna call this one#iambic#pentameter#since the first line does such a good job of establishing the feel of iambic pentamenter#kicking off each line with an amphibrach is so good. power move#i dithered on where to divide up the second line#'i was the | last rat' for a nice dactyl/spondee feel#but i just love inverting the iamb of 'was like' to a trochee on 'i was' to match the move from simile to metaphor#amphibrach#spondee#trochee#tagging them since theyre interesting here#also i live in the uk and therefore the nuances of the whataburger ref are lost on me. other scholars can chime in on that i guess

So today I want to talk about puberty blockers for transgender kids, because despite being cisgender, this is a subject I’m actually well-versed in. Specifically, I want to talk about how far backwards things have gone.
This story starts almost 20 years ago, and it’s kind of long, but I think it’s important to give you the full history. At the time, I was working as an administrative assistant for a pediatric endocrinologist in a red state. Not a deep deep red state like Alabama, we had a little bit of a purple trend, but still very much red. (I don’t want to say the state at the risk of doxxing myself.) And I took a phone call from a woman who said, “My son is transgender. Does your doctor do hormone therapy?”
I said, “Good question! Let me find out.”
I went into the back and found the doctor playing Solitaire on his computer and said, “Do you do hormone therapy for transgender kids?” It had literally never come up before. He had opened his practice there in the early 2000s. This was roughly 2006, and the first time someone asked. Without looking up from his game of Solitaire, the doctor said, “I’ve never done it before, but I know how it works, so sure.”
I got back on the phone and told the mom, who was overjoyed, and scheduled an appointment for her son. He was the first transgender child we treated with puberty blockers. But not, by far, the first child we treated with puberty blockers, period. Because puberty blockers are used very commonly for children with precocious puberty (early-onset puberty). I would say about twenty percent of the kids our doctor treated were for precocious puberty and were on puberty blockers. They have been well studied and are widely used, safe, and effective.
Well. It turned out, the doctor I worked for was the only doctor in the state who was willing to do this. And word spread pretty fast in the tight-knit community of ‘parents of transgender children in a red state’. We started seeing more kids. A better drug came out. We saw some kids who were at the age where they were past puberty, and prescribed them estrogen or testosterone. Our doctor became, I’m fairly sure, a small folk hero to this community.
Insurance coverage was a struggle. I remember copying articles and pages out of the Endocrine Society Manual to submit with prior authorization requests for the medications. Insurance coverage was a struggle for a lot of what we did, though. Growth hormone for kids with severe idiopathic short stature. Insulin pumps, which weren’t as common at the time, and then continuous glucose monitoring, when that came out. Insurance struggles were just part and parcel of the job.
I remember vividly when CVS Caremark, a pharmaceutical management company, changed their criteria and included gender dysphoria as a covered diagnosis for puberty blockers. I thought they had put the option on the questionnaire to trigger an automatic denial. But no - it triggered an approval. Medicaid started to cover it. I got so good at getting approvals with my by then tidy packet of articles and documentation that I actually had people in other states calling me to see what I was submitting (the pharmaceutical rep gave them my number because they wanted more people on their drug, which, shady, but sure. He did ask me if it was okay first).
And here’s the key point of this story:
At no point, during any of this, did it ever even occur to any of us that we might have to worry about whether or not what we were doing was legal.
It just never even came up. It was the medically recommended treatment so we did it. And seeing what’s happening in the UK and certain states in America is both terrifying and genuinely shocking to me, as someone who did this for almost fifteen years, without ever even wondering about the legality of it.
The doctor retired some years ago, at which point there were two other doctors in the state who were willing to prescribe the medications for transgender kids. I truly think that he would still be working if nobody else had been willing to take those kids on as patients. He was, by the way, a white cisgender heterosexual Boomer. I remember when he was introduced to the concept of ‘genderfluid’ because one of our patients on HRT wanted to go off. He said ‘that’s so interesting!’ and immediately went to Google to learn more about it.
I watched these kids transform. I saw them come into the office the first time, sometimes anxious and uncertain, sometimes sullen and angry. I saw them come in the subsequent times, once they were on hormone therapy, how they gradually became happy and confident in themselves. I saw the smiles on their faces when I gave them a gender marker letter for the DMV. I heard them cheer when I called to tell them I’d gotten HRT approved by insurance and we were calling in a prescription. It was honestly amazing and I will always consider the work I did in that red state with those kids to be something I am incredibly proud of. I was honored to be a part of it.
When I see all this transgender backlash, it’s horrifying, because it was well on the way to become standard and accepted treatment. Insurances started to cover it. Other doctors were learning to prescribe it. And now … it’s fucking illegal? Like what the actual fuck. We have gone so far backwards that it makes me want to cry. I don’t know how to stop this slide. But I wrote this so people would understand exactly how steep the slide is.

With improving healthcare services in the UK through first contact practitioner services at the core, at Xcel Health FCP, we bridge patients with effective care: one core objective is to support the NHS with skilled professionals, such as First Contact Physiotherapists. This piece explains what first contact practitioners do, how we connect them with NHS jobs, and how the additional roles reimbursement scheme 2022/23 supports that.

This place I applied for a job at keeps emailing me (automatic emails not a real human being) asking why I haven’t done the tests they asked me to do and I don’t know how to explain to them it’s because their tests feel like psychological warfare
#i did the first like 3 or 4 (there were ELEVEN) before i had to bow out because i was too stressed and my hands were so sweaty i was worrie#my dyshidrotic eczema was going to flare up#what’s the job? PART TIME RETAIL ASSISTANT AT [redacted] CASINO/BETTING SHOP#i was like. i pass this place every day there is no possible way their employees can pass these tests#it started out normal. just having me remember a sequence#but then it got into testing my hand-eye coordination and it was constantly going ‘nerr you’re too slow’ if i took longer than half a secon#to process the information. i was like i’m sorry but this isn’t realistic#this job is retail assistant at a bookie’s not fucking air traffic controller. NO ONE needs to be able to react that fast#i guarantee if this shit flashed on the screen there; the worker’d be calling to the manager like ‘hey guv what does this thing mean?’#and every employee plus one of the people who works in the butcher’s next door plus 70% of the patrons would end up gathered around#the screen puzzling it out for 20+ minutes. then someone who didn’t even leave their slot machine would be like ‘have you checked x?’#and they’d try it and it would work and everyone would go ‘ohhhh’ and disperse#i know because i’ve seen this time and time again#you don’t need to be able to react quickly at any retail job in the uk. in fact it’s probably a detriment#they really had the audacity to call these tests ‘fun games’ they are NOT fun games i am going to break a nail trying to keep up w/ this sh#sidenote how do people type with long nails. i know it’s wrong of me to type using the honest to god tips/ends of my fingers#and not the pads. but i’m a recovering lifelong nail biter and i can’t get out of the habit of typing in this terrible way#i don’t even Have long nails. only my thumb nails have cleared the ends of my fingers thus far. but they feel fucking godawful to type with#i’m fine on phones but my laptop……. i think i’m gonna straight up have to relearn to type#personal
